Hon. Carlos Murguia, of the U.S. District Court in Kansas, resigned this week following renewed scrutiny of workplace misconduct in the federal courts in congressional hearings. Murguia, who was appointed to the bench in 1999, was reprimanded last year in an order from the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals for making sexually suggestive comments and sending inappropriate text messages to employees. The order also said that Murguia had an affair with a felon, making him susceptible to extortion. In a letter to President Trump, Murguia said that he “can no longer effectively serve the court.” His resignation, which forfeits eligibility for pension or any retirement benefits, is effective April 1.
