Judge T.S. Ellis III sentenced former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort to almost four years in prison for tax and bank fraud. The federal guidelines called for a 19 to 24-year term. At the sentencing hearing, Ellis said that Manafort had lived “an otherwise blameless life.” A jury convicted Manafort on eight counts, including hiding from the IRS millions of dollars he earned from work in the Ukraine. Prosecutors had asked for a significant sentence, saying that they believed Manafort was evasive and untruthful in testimony he gave to a grand jury as part of his requirement to cooperate with the Mueller investigation.
